Default King Elf

Hi All:
Well, here he is 'King Elf' I do belive my favorite so far. He is 7 inches tall and 3 inches across ear to ear. I woodburned the eyes, added antique white for the highlight in the eyes. I also used a product call 'Treasure Crystal Cote' to give the eyes a moist look. Mark Gargac uses a simular product called Krylon triple thick clear glaze he gets at Michael's or Hobby Lobby. The Treasure Kote I bought when I was gourding.
'King Elf' has a crown type hat with brass brads attached. I used BLO and finished with a 50/50 mix of Watco dark and neutral Wax

I had him almost finished when Mark Gargac's DVD arrived. That Mark makes it look so easy and actually seeing him carve is so helpful. Mind you I took his Creede 2007 Mountain Man class and seeing the DVD it all came back. Even if you don't want to carve elves it doesn't matter because the lessons on carving eyes, noses, mouths etc. will teach you a lot.

As always I appreciate your thoughts and comments for improvement.
Kathy

By Gosh Kathy, I believe you got it. That is a good size, that's the size I use. It shows that you have been practicing and paying attention. Very well done Kathy, I agree he is your best so far. Merle

Hi: Cliff, Merle, Bill, MarkA, Corey, Sharon

Thank you, all for your nice compliments they are very much appreciated. I'm really enjoying carving these little elf character's. I'm getting ready to start elf #4 no name yet, that will come as the carving takes shape.
I'd like to try one using Mark Gargac's painting method using thinned acrylic paints for color.
Kathy
