Here is a 2 foot cigarstore Indian we just finished this morning. He is carved from Basswood and painted with acrylics and oils. And before you ask, he never got a kiss and that is why his face is red.

Very nice cigar store Indian. Was it a single piece of basswood or did you have to build it up? Phil |

Very cool, Doug. You gonna set him on your front porch or sell him? Only thing is, to me it looks like he has a smirk on his face like he actually did get a kiss (or better) LOL |

Poor Ol' Kawliga, he never got a kiss. I can't figure out if I should get out my old Hank Williams CD, or start looking for a good piece of wood and my Harold Enlow pattern for wooden Indians. Maybe both! Good job Doug, lots of good detail and he has that nostalgic kind of look, or patina, or something that we all strive for. You know, that thing that is hard to describe. I have always wanted to carve a cigar store indian, maybe next project. Jim |

He is from a single piece but if I do another I'll probably have to glue him up as it is hard to find a piece like that. I'm not satisfied with the face so I may do another to try to get a better job on him. And yes, Wolf, he is for sale and I will be taking him down to the gift shop tomorrow. And Wolf, I might have to stop by the BP station on the way to fill up. Heh, heh. Last edited by Doug Ridley; 05-07-2007 at 03:06 PM. |

Great looking Indian. I tried to do one when I first started carving. I was given a piece of elm. When I finished he looked more oriental with one arm thinner than another. I had to make up a story about an out of work Chinese gentleman that had contacted polio and the only job he could get was advertising cigar. I forget the name but I told people they could look it up. Amazing some people actually believed me. A carver I knew said they could fix and I never saw them or the carving again,
