Default Just when you thought...

you'd seen the worst carving ever... I come along with my pathetic first attempt at carving a face out of an Avocado Seed. Good medium to practise with by the way. Soft, easy to cut and keeps its shape well. I whittled this sad little thing while waiting for the other half to go clothes shopping. (Groan, yawn) Now I want everyone to have a good laugh at this....I certainly am. I will keep practising okay?

That's the key to good carving , practice, practice, practice! Learn from your mistakes, but more importantly, enjoy what you are doing.

Never carved and avacado seed before but it sounds interesting and it kept you busy while the better shopped away . That's a winner in my book .

Hey Joe,
Not laughing here! To me the smaller the carving the harder it is to get the effect I want. Any carving is better than not carving.................or looking at clothes with the other half.

Thanks guys, I am still chuckling over the sad little thing though. I intend to practice until I can one day post a decent one for you all to critique. Meanwhile, I'm glad it brought a smile and a chuckle to your day.

Joe,
How long did you have to let the seed dry before carving it? Keep practiceing
and you will get better with each one.

Try carving a vertebrae and you will have a better appreciation for seeds. Its always fun trying different mediums. I never thought I'd carve a golf ball. Every carving is a good carving...just different styles. To give it some more depth, try setting the eyes in deeper next time and wedge off some of the side of the face to give shape...but remember, this is only to change the style - its your carving so you need to be happy with the end result. I'm repeating what someone told me a while back.
