Default Just want to keep the dream alive...

Hi All,
Been quite a year I'd say. Some of you know I like to carve model airplanes. It seems almost sureal to find a length of board from an old house then change it into 3D. Old wood don't really photograph well.fc0e621b2b13__1312152106000.jpg But a model of a Shuttle pilots trainer will. So I make my templates and do some cutting for 2 hours

This project is 2 hours old and I still have to make a template for the paintscheme.cbc14ff45e24__1312160542000.jpg

This is an awsome photo for the carving as one can see the contours very well... c-11-KSC-00PP-0604.jpg... I'm toying around with an old tiecnique which predates plastic and is very fun for young or old cavers. To the seasoned carver this may be a novice style of form. What do you think???

Man, you absolutely have to post a pic when that one is finished!

I remember when all solid model airplanes were made from wood. Used to get kits then that looked just like yours! They came with the blocked out wings, fuselage and ampenage, wire for metal parts, (landing gear ) and a packet of that dry caiien glue that was so hard to manag but served as adhesive and filler. I canstill smell that stuff in my mind. Those were fun and challenging, and turned out pretty well for a young boy to carve and finish.

Then PLASTIC came along.....really questionable whether it was better or not, but it sure took away a lot of skill development. Personally I liked the old wood models better.

Al

Hi Al & Fred,
Thanks for your intrest "yes" Al your correct about Old model kits! I use to build lots of plastic kits in my day. Today I get three view drawings and fabricate my models. I was born in the early 60's so I missed out on wood kits. Still do derby cars. Many of the models I show are prototypes of models I sold to clients. The Ornge heli model was just cause I was bored. What I would go through to enjoy a weekend. 1401250.jpg Compared to many carvers in this forum these forms are simple
