Default Just a suggestion on comments

There was a post in the Beginners section on instructors not wearing gloves in videos and instructionals. The discussion turned a bit personal and caused some hard feelings. In order to avoid this in the future I'd suggest that if you have concerns about subjects that may be personally confrontational, confine your questions/comments to a Personal Message to the person you have questions for.

You are more likely to get a positive response without raising hackles across the board.

Al

Great point Al. The mods and I are discussing how to handle the thread in question right now.

When it comes to carving, there are going to be a few perpetual topics of discussion...carving gloves, whether carving is art or craft, power carving vs hand carving, etc. But these discussions get lost in hard feelings when you direct it to a specific person. Then it becomes a battle of "I'm right, you're wrong," which serves no purpose and won't be tolerated on this site.

Best Regards,
Bob Duncan

A year or so ago we ran in to a similiar problem and at the time kind of washed over it by encouraging folks to add on that this was "in their opinion!" But I guess we've had quite a bit of turnover since then.

It is a shame that our judgments of others has to add bad flavor to the wonderful soup that is this board. I see things all through life that I could (and in my younger days - DID) judge; however, I have found that it is much better to hold my tongue (fingers, in this case) and be happy than to be 'right' and **** a bunch of people off. Also, I have found that it is better to be quiet and thought a fool, then open my mouth and remove all doubt.

Kinda sucks that Arlene got mad (offended) and took a hike. That lady never asked for a thing, just spending many hours helping people. She is just like Gene Messer, just helping people. I wish I had her email to apologize for a couple of people.\
Maybe BobD can take care of that?

I haven't run across the thread referenced here yet, but I can't understand why some folks seem to think their way is the only way. I've seen lots of great carvings and lots of great tips from a lot of different folks. That old saying, "If you can't say something nice, it best to say nothing," comes to mind. I think the last sentence in your post says it best.
