Default Just ordered a new DVD...

... about flat plane carving...

I couldn't stop myself and ordered "Figure Carving Scandinavian Style" by Harley Refsa on DVD, even if there are many videos on Youtube about that style of carving.

I realized I was hooked on flat plane carving when I decided to start a new flat plane version of my carving for the Hillbilly Reunion project. Call me crazy if you want, but I had to do it. I'm almost finished with the carving and will be able to paint it soon. And I must say that I like it better that way.

So, back to the DVD, it looks so interesting that I should have fun with it. I have his book, but I want to see him carve.

Sorry, I had to tell someone...

Gilles

Hello Gilles,
Sounds like a good idea to me. I learn a lot from videos.

It's an excellent video. I carved this just from watching the video.

HI Terry, That is a good one!
I have never done a flat plane carving. I may have to try one.

I like to learn from videos and I can look at a learning video just like some people look at films...

Very nice carving Terry. It is perfect. Very impressive,

The video is supposed to show the technique of flat carving, like how to get clean cuts and all, more than how to carve different characters, and that's what I am looking for.

Cool, that's good news.

I took a look again at the book which has the same carving in pictures, and it just make me anxious to get the DVD...

Btw, the character I re-carved more in the flat plane style looks more like a hillbilly than the first one I carved. It's not completely flat plane I suppose, but the feeling is different because of that. And I think it helps me find my own style by carving in that style.

gtech;
I too have that DVD by Harley Refsal. Good choice. I've carved 4 figures so far in the flat plane style, and they are really fun to carve. I posted them awhile back in the flat plane section here on the site. I have been really too busy to do any serious carving lately, but am catching up on other things, so I will be back at my carving bench soon. Harley Refsal has other books on his figures that you can buy too. Once you finish one, its off to the next one! You will see soon. Good luck on your carving, and welcome to the board.

The video is very well made and just fun to watch. The only place I got lost a little bit (my own fault) was cutting under the hat. I cut down on the forehead a bit more than I should have.
