Default Just goofin' off!!

Here is a carving I have been wanting to do for some time now. All of my tools are palm tools and up til yet they are serving the purpose well. A friend has been telling me about the benefits of carving with bench tools and the wood in a vise and now I have made my attempt. It really was fun with all of the chips flying around and the ease with which you can control the tools. I figure I carved this piece in about 1/3 the time it was taking with the palm tools. The piece was carved out of catalpa with a laquer finish and a wax chaser on top. I probably should of spent the time to clean it up a bit but I was carried away with the whole speed factor and wanted to get it done. Your comments are more than welcome, especially if you see something I could be doing better.

Scott

Looks pretty good to me for a "hurry up job".

I don't understand Scott! What would you have "cleaned up" had you spent more time? I think it's a clean carving as it is. And a very nice one too. Tom H

As I sit here with the carving 2 feet away I can see a few areas that needed smoothed up, cut wise. Otherwise I'm really happy with it.
