Default Just for fun

G'day,
at age 14 I lost the use of my right eye due to an accident with an air rifle. My parents, being parents (thank God) were constantly asking if my remaining eye was handling the strain, Teens being teens, I would give them a reassuring "Yup"...One day on arriving home from work, Dad handed me a small newspaper cutting ans said" if you think your eye is ok, do you reckon you could do that?" Turns out that the cutting was a grainy picture and article about a bored prisoner in one of our jails, who had used a broken razor blade to do a carving on a wooden matchstick......about 2 hours later, I handed Dad a reasonable copy of that carving. Enquiries about the health of my good eye tapered off dramatically after that <grin> Now, 50 years on, I still attempt that same project just for the fun of it, only now I need the assistance of strong magnifiers etc.
I have attached some snaps of a carving I did last night, but must apologise for the lack of quality....my camera just isn't up to handling so small an item even with Macro....I sort of overcome the problem by using Macro and taking the snaps thru' a large desk magnifier, hope you can make out the subject ok...
John

If it isn't fun....why do we do it ?

Great example of micro carving! That's pretty small. Well done!

That pretty well verifies that there is nothing wrong with your eyesight. That is really neat. Great job.

Thank you for showing us such incredible work. And thanks for showing us the knife in one shot too.

That must take some patients as I find small carvings...and yours is very small...takes more effort than a large one. Even though the picture is a little blurred, I think I can guess what your subject is pretty easily as you've captured the curves very well.
