| | Johnson City Results I just returned from a terrific show in Johnson City, Tennessee where we had quite a few Wood Carving Illustrated members present. From the board there were Mark Akers, Mitch, Bob in TN, Woodtraper, tnartist, JimmyB and myself.
Mark won first place in the woodcarving competition and Mitch picked up a close second. This time we had the difficult task of all carving the same thing. One of the main members from Woodcraft was our model and whoever made the carving look the most like him won. I must say that it is much more difficult than just carving whatever came to mind. The first two pictures below are from the competition.
I think everyone who submitted items from the board came home winners in the show! If you ever get a chance to go to this show, please take the trip. It was well worth it!!
Attached are some pictures from the show!

| | Re: Johnson City Results By the way, Bob in Tn had the opportunity to break the tie for the winner of best of show. Sharon seeked him out as being a member of WCI. See, being a member of this board does have some benefits. I think Bob was afraid he had a target on his back while he was making the decision. Way to represent the board Bob! |

| | Re: Johnson City Results Hey Woodtrapper....how do you like that basswood? Didn't we tell you it would cut like butter? Probably not as easy as that finger cut, but pretty close! Glad you made it down to the show!

| | Re: Johnson City Results You are right Blake, it does cut like butter.I am not use to carving basswood but I like so far.I have an idea for a relief carving and I hope I can find something out of basswood around 12'' wide but not sure if bass comes in wide planks. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
