| | Johnny Reb This younger mtn man, thought it was his time to go help in the war,the civil war. Soon he will be called a Rebel.
Hes carved in a very old small board of wormy chestnut
{ 5 3/8 X 9 inches},It has to be least 75yrs old. It was totally black when I started cleaning and sanding it,course had some bigger holes and alot of bore holes in it. I didnt really know what I could carve in it?? Had to be something tall and miss the 2 holes that go all the way through the board on the left.
His little cabin and a tree{top left} are just small cuts. I didnt want to paint this old wood but I did add some thinned down stain but very lightly.
He has his old long rifle in his left hand, power horn on his right side and a power flask in his right hand, his old hound behind him had walked with him down to the path but soon he will send him back to the cabin.
A fun project. Your thoughts or comments are more than welcome.
Thks' Tn~

| | Re: Johnny Reb Is there no end to your imagination, my friend? You not only think them up in a flash, but take them to fruition through a story and a wonderful carving to boot!
This one looks great not painted....it's a beautiful piece of wood and I love what you did with it. It's a good thing I can't be at one of your fairs, cause I'd spend every nickel I had on your stuff alone!! Bonnie |

| | Re: Johnny Reb Hey Forrest, great job on the carving. You've given me some hope. You see my neighbor (the woodsman) gave me a bunch of basswood way back last summer when I started to carve. The one block 4 inches by 10 inches by about 3 feet is absolutely full of worm holes and I had no idea I could ever use it. Who knows, maybe one day I'll cut it up and try something along those lines. Still working on technique at the momment, but one day maybe.

| | Re: Johnny Reb Excellent Forrest. You did that old piece of chestnut some justice. Lots of character in the wood and the carving.

I had to do something with this old nice little wormy chestnut board and being a old southern boy myself, shoot yea why not try a Rebel in it. It was hard trying to miss all the holes so I just let cuts fall as they may!
I appreciate your neat compliments my friend,Forrest
