Default This is John

This is a Carving I did for a friend I met, one of the nicest people you'll ever meet. He used to carve years ago himself, but time and present circumstances prevent him from continuing. He volunteers his time to a worthy organization, maybe you can tell by the emblem on his shirt. He was so interested in what I did, and after he invited me to his home and gave me one of his carvings done years ago, I had to do this one for him.

Anyway it’s Basswood 18” high, 8” wide and 5.5” deep. I had a hard time finding a finish for it, ended with several coats of wax.

Bruce, This is a fantastic piece. You really have a knack for catching the realism of a person in your carvings. On a personal note, I especially appreciate that you take a picture looking straight on & from both sides, as I need that full range for reference when I try to do my own carvings. Thank you for sharing. Your work is an inspiration to beginners such as myself.

Dan
