Default Jig Needed Please....

I am in need of someone's ideas for a jig that will aid me in taking chainsaw marks out of a large slab of wood. I cut some slabs out of a large log and I don't really have much in the way of planning tools or even a router. It seems as though I do alot of things the hard way...lol. I have a hard time cutting freehand with my Sthil ms-180 12" saw and could use some ideas.

Buy a die grinder (Don can provide details), or buy a plane. A decent plane can be had from eBay for $15-$20. BTW, you need a tool, not a jig; a jig is (according to my dictionary) a "device that holds a piece of work and guides the tools operating on it." By it's very nature with the large and widely separated teeth, a chainsaw will leave lots of saw marks, even with a jig. A powered grinder or rotary tool will quickly smooth out the saw marks...

Or a belt sander with 80 grit. I've used them when I couldn't use my router and jig. Just keep a straight edge of some sort to continually check for flatness. It's cheaper than buying new tools for short term use.

You might check your local woodshops- some will plane or thickness sand for a fee, or a twelve pack....
