Default it's gonna go!

This church is a new client on board for renovations starting next year as I usually do book a year or so in advance for many projects. Unbelievably this main altar is being taken out. I just thought it was pretty cool looking and thought you might like a peek at an interesting Orthodox high altar. I'm going to build a new altar for them as well as two side altars and possibly a podium. The new altar is going to be nothing more than basically a table,,4 legs and a top...which ultimately gets hidden. But I can build it with any type of fasteners. The side ones will be Mahogany,,6 ft long,,24" wide,,40 inches tall.

I was over this piece trying to see how it was built to advise them how to dismantle it without using a sledge hammer...I'm at a loss. The thing was amazing.Part wood,,part plaster casts...seems moulded as one whole piece.Stands over 10 ft tall,,12 ft wide,,6 ft deep. It's something else.

That's a shame they're going to demolish that altar. I wonder how much history is in that piece of art?

Years and years of it. Really is a shame isn't it? How many services did it go through,,marriages,,etc. It stood witness to all of it. And now relegated to the scrap bin,,,,

Thanks for sharing Mark. Hoping you will be able to give us more reason for the change after you have worked there a while. It is sad to take apart good craftsmanship and art. I am really curious what reasons they will give you. Enjoy the rebuilding.
