Default ISO: A wooden doll to carve

Hi, I'm looking for a pattern or a picture of a wooden jointed doll. I'd like to try carving one. I have this idea in my head that just wont leave me alone. LOL I've tried drawing it myself, but I'm not having much luck. The one I have in my head would be like a marionette (sp) type doll... but with out the strings. This doll would be positionable. Anyone know of a site, book or a picture to share? I'm hoping all I'd have to do is look at it to get a simular idea on paper. Thanks much, Marci

Hi Marci

I think Jean Lotz will probably give you quite a bit of info.--at least a starting point--depending on what you interested in doing.
http://www.lotzdollpages.com/

Here's a link that might give you a starting point. Scroll down to Traudel von Rothardt. Click on the second picture next to her name, and you'll see what I mean.

Another link on wooden doll making:

Good luck!

Oh Lordy folks.... I found a new passion I think... no, I KNOW I did. Tom H. Thats it.. I found HITTY. WOW what an amazing doll. I've already got the pattern put on wood, just getting ready to try my hand at her in the carving dept. Its the clothes making I'm not so sure about. I was up till 4 am scrounging the net on the Hitty doll and her friends. One sight even had a link to our WCI!!

Thanks folks.. I appreciate the help.

Marci MN, if it's marionette's info you are looking for leave me a private message with your e-mail address.
I realize you don't want to make a marionette with strings but want a articulated doll.Smile

Cheers.

Marci, My daughter and granddaughter both collect Hitty dolls (all hand carved). There is a thriving market out there for the handcarved Hitty. Daughter makes clothes for the doll. If interested let me know in private message and I'll give you her e mail address. Keep us posted on your doll carving. Tom H

Itty, Bitty and Hitty...there are all over the place.Smile

Her's a site that provides a carving tutorial on Itty, Bitty or Hitty if you like.Smile

http://www.tcvdolls.com/

Go to "4" Dolls - Bittys", then "How to carve your own Bitty"

There is also a short tutorial on carving tiny heads from wooden beads on this site.

Cheers.
