Default Inspiration Needed

Hi everyone,

Ive just been given a sycamore stump, it's approx 6 foot long x 9 to 10 inches in diameter, i would like to carve it so that it ends up about 5 foot tall, so i can stand it in our sun room. Problem is i have no idea what to carve.

Its made more difficult with it only have a small diameter, would like suggestions to provide a spark of artistic inspiration, doesn't have to be complex.

All ideas gratefully received.

Regards

Rod

Hi, Rod. If I had a stump like that, I'd like to do a vine (ivy or trumpet creeper or such) twining around it with lots of nature's little creatures (tree frogs, lizards, dragonflies, small birds) scattered around it. I'd be bringing the outdoors inside without the aggravation of things like biting mosquitoes and such. Just my idea.

Whatever you end up carving, I hope you'll post a picture of the finished carving to share with us. Happy carving.

Beth

Beth,

Like that idea, would never have thought about that, well not for a long time.

Sometimes i know what i want to carve and other times i just can't think of anything.

Would still like other peoples input if they don't mind.

I was wondering if it would be possible to incorporate a figure of a female form but i don't think it will work for the height with it being so narrow.

If you want a female figure why not bend her around the stump. Instead of an in the round female, so a deep or shallow relief of a female peeking around the stump. Sort of like the idea of the vine wrapping around it.
