Default Inside the letters & frame - Questions

Hi,

I decided for a first project to make a set of ABC childs blocks. I have a question about A, K, M, etc. What is the best method of getting the wood out inside the triangle of the letter?

Secondly, I decided a small frame on the outside of the block would be nice. I am going aroind the edge placing vertical cuts so I won't cut into the frame area. Is this the correct way to do it, or is there a better way?

FWIW, after hitting the letter C, I know this is definately a quick learning project - lot's of fun though! I imagine by the time I hit Z, and get some simple patterns on the sides, I will see some improvement. At the very worst, I will have a store of knowledge on how not to do it.

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Mike

Well, a skew chisel would work if there is room for it. I have gotten quite lazy lately and found that my Dremmel tool makes a fine router. With the router attachment and a 1/8' or 1/16' fluted bit (including flutes on the BOTTOM of the bit), I can clean up edges and corners very quickly and neatly. It also helps to maintain a consistant depth of cut and ensure the edges are flat and vertical. Or if you insist, a razor knife and a magnifying glass would probably do the job. Good Luck!

Flexcut makes a set of tools called 'Micro' something. They are very good for those tight spots, but I think they cost about $60.00 for the set of 4. If the triangle is not too large, you could project the cuts for the sides of the space down to a point, removing a small pyramid like the chip carvers do.

Good Luck...
