Default indians

HI, why do carvers always carve old indians. Is there any other carvers that do indians besides Jeff Phares and John Burke. Thanks feb.

I think it is because of the character that develops in an older face.

...I have to agree with Whitecree on this one..all of the character added by age through wrinkes and exposure to the elements. (...the same goes for mountain men...)

I guess cus they look mad in most pictures etc.
That reminds me of the story about a Royal Canadian Mounted Police officer who rode his horse through the reservation every morning and every morning he nodded good morning to the old Chief as he passed and every moning the Chief gave him the upright finger sign along with a horizontal finger sign.
Finally after many instances of this kind of behaviour from the Chief the RCMP officer said , I know what the vertical finger gesture means, but what does the horizontal finger mean?
The Chief replied , Me no like your horse either!

.

I guess it's hard to smile when everything that you love has been stolen from you. And even worse to see it being destroyed. White men took their land and proceeded to destroy the land, and kill the animals that libved on it. I think the world would be a much better place if the Native Americans still ruled this country. They considered themselves to be custodians of the land, and their job was to respect and nurture it. We have taken it, destroyed the land, killed most of the animals, and left very little for generations to come. Not something I am very proud of.

Thanks,
Dan Heine

Hey! I carve Indians with smiles. Sometimes even young ones!

Maybe the reason most of them are not smiling is because back then they didn't have WalMart or Home Depot. Just think if Custer has stopped off at Starbucks that morning instead.

Down here in Oklahoma they're all smiles. Casinos are popping up everywhere. We have ten within a ten mile radius and they're building even more. Won't be long before they buy the place back and then they'll be doing carving of us sad white people, wondering why we always seem to have a scowl on our faces!!
