Default I'm not so pleased, but Wife is thrilled to bits!

G'day All,
My wife was born in Ireland, and as Monday just gone was her birthday, I set out to carve Harley Refsals' Leprechaun as a gift for her, unfortunately, the wood I chose (Brown Tulip Oak) wasn't really suitable for flat plane carving and he ended up as anything but flat plane, and of course I can see quite a few things that I wish I had done differently...ah well, maybe next time.
However, the wife loves him (warts 'n' all) so for a very short time, I am No.1 around here....LOL
He is 8" tall and I carved him a Shamrock as a base to make him less likely to be knocked over. I appologise in advance for the poor photography and I thank you for taking the time to look.
John

Sure'n that's a fine leprechaun you've got there, John. I especially like the fact that you did a shamrock for a base. Much better than just putting him on a plain base.

I'll just bet she's thrilled with him! She'll be looking for his pot of gold to show up at any time too! LOL

Well done and I love the shamrock base, it sets him off.

John as the above comments I will add the fact is? He looks great plus I also like his little stick in his well carved right hand plus the shamrock base adds such a delightfull touch to this carving, plus not to leave out the excellent job you did painting him!
Ohhh yea!! You are out of the dog house for the time being, cause the chains our wives have on us will be jerking you back soon! LOL

And then, you will have to carve her another wonderfull carving as you did on this Leprechaun!!

John,
Nice job. I like the red hair and big boots - very emerald ile-sy - can be spotted easier when lying in the ditch on the way home from the pub. (hey - it's o.k. I'm Irish)

Fine looking carving John. I even got a few ideas for my own leprechaun I started. He definitely has some Irish in him so you wife should be pleased.
