Default I'm back but no prize

Hi Gang,
Well firstly happy 4th July to all my US friends. I am back from Campbell River British Columbia on beautiful Vancouver Island where I participated in the 10th Annual Shoreline Arts competition. For those of you that are not aware Shoreline Arts is a chainsaw carving event that happens right on the beach at Willow Point in Cambell River Canada at the same time every year. It is an invitational event that is limited to 32 carvers from around the world. We choose a huge log either Douglas Fir or Red Cedar and their are no guide lines just create a sculpture in 4 days. Then the carvings are judged on the Sunday. My carving this year was Santa and the Woodspirit. You may have seen some pictures of the one I practiced on a much smaller log earlier this year. This is my fifth year at the contest and no I still havent won. I really never go expecting to anyway. These guys are really talented and the competition is extreamly tough. I go because over the years all of these guys and girls by the way. (We had three girls carving this year) have all become extreamly good friends and I look forward all year to meeting with them.
Here are some pictures of my carving this year I will post some other pictures later when I get over my jet lag.
Colin

Colin, Very nice Santa and Wood Spirit. Lookin forward to seeing the other works. Since you didn't get a prize the other carvings must be more than fantastic. The event sounds like lots of fun. But, one question - what happens to all the carvings? Are they shipped home? Tom H

Welcome home Colin! Ah lad, you're always a winner here! Congratulations, that is a great piece of work. Glad to hear (and see) you are back in one piece and no missing body parts. I always worry when you go to that thing...... a bunch of chainsaw artists, getting together once a year, partying half the night, and the next morning picking up a "live" chainsaw and going at a holy Lord liftin' great log, while standing on a bloody sand dune! How does your hangover handle the racket!!!

Good to have you back with us and am looking forward to seeing your pics of the competition.

Bob

Great Job Colin! Really like the Santa and wood spirit! I'm glad you went and had a good time! Regardless of whether you win or lose, you still represented yourself very well!

Colin,
Welcome home!
You'll win it on of these days, but I'm sure you come away feeling like a winner every year just going and getting to hang out with great folks sharing life and what each of you loves to do.
Wade

I enjoyed the pictures and look forward to seeing the rest. It's great that you go into something like this with the attitude of having fun. Winning is the big plus but enjoying something you like to do and having a good time with friends is a big plus too. Thank for sharing!
