Default I'm Back!

Oh, you poor people!!!! I'm back, up and running as our computer came home yesterday evening after a two week hospital stay.

The oak tree photo is what we found of the lightening strike that took down our motherboard. That tree had a diameter of about 22" to 24" before the strike spit it.

Now, while I was gone I did do some carving, just a bit. With the holidays coming far too quickly I have been working on my Christmas presents.

Do you remember that a few years ago someone came out with dried flower bottles made from sections of old fence post. Well, here's my copy of that idea.

I used a 1/2" bit that was 5" long to create the hole down the center of a 2"x2"12" basswood practice blank. Then I widened the hole opening to about 1" at the top.

Thought I share it with you in case someone wants a quick carving as a holiday gift.

Susan

(Boy I missed you guys something awful!)

Welcome back Susan!
The lightening strike photo is very impressive. Glad it didn't start fires at least. Too bad about your computer.
The little vase is very dear, and I will put it on my list to do someday. Thanks for showing that. You are so generous with your ideas.
Thanks for that.

Glad you're back with us.

Susan, I thought you were just really busy and that is why we hadn't heard from you. Glad to hear your puter is back from the hospital and your BACK!
Geez, you are so talented--only you would think to create a multi-use carving such as this one. I love it cool idea!

Thanks Guys and Gals!

Ron, No kidding! And as close as that strike was we are hiding in the closet with the computer during the next storm.

The lightening must have either split just as it hit the tree canope or run along the ground. There is a second tree about 15 feet away from this one where the bark is split open from the very top to the ground. I would estimate that the second tree is perhaps 40' to 50' tall? It's odd looking because the split spirals down the tree trunk.

Both are part of an old woods so they have that reach for the sun height to them.

Yep ... it's either in the closet or under the bed during the next storm!

Susan

I like that "flower pot/wood spirit kind of thing going on" idea of yours. Very neat and practical - hope to try it myself one day.

Neat flower vase. Oh , Glad you are back. Power off and unplug is the norm around here. Made it easier with surge protectors.

Susan really nice to have you back you were missed for sure. We miss your wisdom and all the advice that you offer us. We probably take you for granted when you are on line. Only when we dont hear from you do we realize how boring this board would be without you. Again nice that you are back with us and BTW I just love that woodspirit flower pot that you did amazing work you are so talented. Glad you stayed safe during the storm but what a shame to loose such a beautiful tree.
