Default An idea for a chain pull...

and it's from a Gene 5 min whittling.

I wanted a fast carving for my fan and I just whittled this quick guy from a small piece of 3/4" square basswood I had close by.

Nothing fancy, but I thought I could mention the idea of using this fast whittling for a chain pull.

I'll do a couple more and will put more time into them to make them better looking. But this one is kind of a prototype to test the idea. Now that I know how I like it, I will work on the idea for more and different guys to hang on the fans in the house. And I know my sister will want one...

It doesn't show on the picture but I used a pencil to do 2 simple eyes and will add them to the next ones I'll do. I like to use a different color for each guy.

Keep on whittling...

Gilles

Thanks,

I just made another one, and it seems like I am finding a lot of other simple designs that could be used for chain pulls.

I think that it could be an item that would be fast to carve and easy to sell. Like Santas in the Xmas time.

I know that I like to change them on my fans from time to time, so I will begin to collect some for myself.

Excuse me, I have to go to the store get some chain...

Thanks to Gene Messer for the original idea.

Gilles

Gilles....i like your woodfellow....and the chain pull is a great idea. I started carving some woodfellows myself, and have about 25 of them now...gave away a couple and a friend did make a chain pull out of it. I just put a small eyehook in the hat with a thin leather strap. Make them out of scraps of basswood, butternut, red cedar, spruce, tupelo and I just acquired some exotic wood pen blanks, so I made some out of those, and they are beautiful when coated with a poly! They make great small gifts for family and friends....Bonnie

That's a neat little chain pull, Gilles. That'd make a cool key fob or zipper pull, too. Keep up the great work and thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the comments...

Ed, I made a key fob once from a dog for my sister and she loves it. But the zipper pull is another great idea.

Yesterday, I bought some chain for some fan pulls.

I like to do these fast projects. I find that more relaxing than bigger carvings for now.

Gilles

Great idea, there are many uses for small carvings like that. Joe.
