| Can anyone tell me where I can find a plan for a hook board. I had a plan for one that used dogs and/or pegs but it has been lost. Can't remember the spacing of the dog/peg holes, hole size and dog patterns. |

My guess is it's the type of board that hooks over the edge of a workbench to hold a relief ( or other) type of carving usually flat in nature. I don't think there really is a science to this type of thing. The board can be a bit larger than your usual carvings and the holes if you wish to use dogs which will allow holding odd shaped pieces can be simply 3/4 inch holes and use 3/4 inch dowels as the dogs. Holes could be spaced every inch or so.. and maybe in rows 1-2 inches apart. Some of this of course will depend on the carving you wish to do. And with a board like this it's simple enough to add holes where and when you need them. Personally I've never used one.But if I wanted one,, this is what I'd probably do if in fact this is what you're looking for. |

Do you mean bench hook? Do a google search and you'll find bunches. There is a bench hook plan at lumberjocks.com for example.

No confusion really,, everyone knew what you meant. Bench hook ,,hook board,, one of those thing-a -ma -bobs to hold a carving. All the same really. The only thing that matters is you got your answer. And now you're on your way. It's a win!

Bench hooks are great when standing at the bench and using the big and sharp chisels. I make my own and have gone thru several over the years as they tend to get torn up from stopping the chisels as they cut thru my latest carving project. |
