Default Hitty Doll

Here is my second project from Adina Huckin's class at War Eagle. I wanted the extra practice doing another female face and I had admired the beautiful dolls she was working on during the class. The joints are very simple on this classic-styled Hitty doll, but I plan to try some more. The smaller figures don't leave a lot of room for mistakes and carving the arms and legs seemed a lot like flat-plane style work. But it was a lot of fun. Thanks for looking and comments welcomed! (By the way, Adina and her sister Janet Cordell will be teaching a 3 day doll making class in northwest Arkansas in early December)

Well done Mike. You are a painter as well. You must be a very good student as you have captured the faces. Excellent carvings.

Mike, I have for years belonged to the Hitty Girls (don't laugh), but I seldom see a doll face that is as well carved as yours. I believe you have captured the look, just right in this doll. My daughter has about 24 Hitty's that have been carved by lots of doll carvers, and I'd put yours right up there with the ones that are priced out at $200 to $400 each. Don't forget, you have to dress her now.

Great job on the doll. Your carving and painting is certainly up there. Any chance you could explain and show the jointing system you have employed there? Thanks, Joe.

Oh my she's GORGEOUS!! I just love her expression! Carving Hitty sized dolls is an addiction too... watch out. I've done 74 of them already... Not all Hitty but all that size , grandpas, grandmas, boys ect.

Tom is right.. you could get that price easily. There are patterns out there for dressing her and there are seamstresses that will dress her for you and you can purchase outfits to fit her if you look under Hitty in ebay or join a yahoo group (highly suggested if you continue to carve these pretty girls).

Thanks for sharing.. and LUCKY you to learn to carve her under Adina and Janet... I'm green with envy.

Marcia.
