I dropped over at your website: http://www.funkychickenartproject.com/white.htm being nosey and wanting to see what you've been carving. How about showing off your Viking Ship box and those wonderful Greenmen book shelves ... PA-LEASE! Susan |

HI Susan! Well, since you did post the link to the web page.....I guess they are already there for the world to see. I've been working on 9 or 10 different projects lately, and haven't managed to finish anything other than Christmas ornaments. My one student is getting a lot better though. I'm very excited about going to the woodcarving show in Hickory, NC this weekend and actually meeting a few more folks on this message board.. I'm even going to try entering the relief carved tree of life with a gilded framework, and the relief carved old man with a boy smashing grapes in the competition. Scary.... Thanks for tooting my horn for me. Good to hear from you. What are YOU carving? Thor |

OK, Susan, here you go. How can I refulse a pretty please with brown sugar on top? I had to go snatch them off of my web site to make them easy to show. I carved these a good while ago...all white pine.. The Viking Ship sold immediately. Thor |

Hey Thor! I'm looking forward to meeting you down in Hickory....you will love the folks and the show is one of the best. Good luck on entering your projects. I'm sure you will find that it was well worth your drive. I too am driving almost 4 hours and am going down on Friday. Great work by the way! Blake |

I can understand why the Viking Ship didn't hang around very long. That is a perfect example of how background texture just pushes the carving right off the surface of the work. Wonderful!!! The Greenmen are delightful, just my type of carving. Did you do the clay mugs as well? They are great accents for your carved shelf. Your 'horn' is well worth tooting ... ![]() Susan (Me Carving??? Fox Chapel has had my nose to the grind stone this summer and I just sent the work off for the last manuscript for this year at the beginning of the week. So at least for a few days I'm taking a busman's holiday and sock knitting! K1, P1 SL1, K1, psso .... ) Last edited by Irish; 10-25-2006 at 08:01 PM. |

The clay mugs are by another artist who displays in my gallery. They do fit up there don't they? Actually, the picture is not current.... the mugs are all sold...the shelf is still here. I admire your sock knitting skills. I have traded my work for hand knitted socks on two occassions. Wore them to a thread bare state after wearing them everyday for an entire winter. They were very pretty colors, and I wore them with berkinstocks to show them off. Kept my feet warm. I'll be looking for the new book. Love your dragon book. Wish you were coming to the show. Someday I'd like to meet you in person. Thor |

HI Garry, Thanks. A rep. who was going to sell some of my work for me to other galleries took the spoon you referred to and more and has never come back or sent me money. I may cross paths with him someday, but he's a con-man so I just have to learn from the experience. The cherry is still in brick form, and I haven't made much progress on the ale bowl, but Erno is giving me tips on how to work it. I've also acquired a 4 foot piece of drift wood that I'm trying to carve a woodspirit into, but it's crumbly under the surface and giving me fits. Then, I was given two pieces of green basswood that I have no idea what I'm going to do with. I'm also trying to carve 2 jewelry hangers in relief for sale with brass hooks all lined up on the bottom to hang necklaces on. I've also got a commission for a box that I have only cut out. Everything is "being worked on" but I'm not finishing anything. I think I'm stuck on "start". I'm hoping this weekend will inspire me to finish everything. Thanks for asking. Thor |
