Default Hey JackTar, who is Jack Tar

I saw a carving of Jack tar in chip chats, and thought that name sounded familiar. So I was wondering if he was a folk hero or something. Just wondering.

Jacktar is a nickname for sailors. in the days of sail the sailors would use tar to keep their 'ponytails' from flying in the wind and getting tangled in the rigging (ropes).

The flap on the back of a sailors uniform was originally used to keep the tar off his uniform.

Have fun.

It's amazing what a person can learn here, if they only take the time to visit.
