Default Hemlock Sleeper

Here is a Hemlock knot that I have had around the house for a while and wanted to get back into carving some knots. I ran out of wood behind the eyes so I made him a sleeper. Anyway here he is. Sleeping

Great carving woodtrapper. I have yet to do a carving with the eyes closed. The eyes being shut really suits this carving.

davy, I've been study#$%^%% (sp) the carving and it's neat. Please,on your next one could you show a before and after pic? That way I could see what I need to start with on my way to perfection. ie what a knot suitable for carving looks like compared to the finished carving, a ruler in the pic for comparision would be good.arnie

Didn't I see him in "Pirates of the Caribbean"? Very well done! He may have his eyes shut, but you sure had vision to see him in that knot!

Smile Re: Hemlock Sleeper

Wow, I did not expect those kind of responces but I'll take them.I did hand chisel the knot like I do all my carvings.I must admit that it is tough. It is so easy to loose a nose or a cheek etc.You just never know what surprises mother nature has for you just before the last chip.I will take some before and after pics as per Arnie's request.I wanted to start an other knot today but unfortunately they are frozen in time.We are having frozen rain this Sunday and I can not budge anything loose.Anyway, I guess I'll watch NFL playoffs dang it.Thanx for the your great comments.Look for my next thread called woodshop salsa.Davy
