I ordered the plate glass sharpening set thing from Rockler hoping to learn how to hone my chisels myself. It is the one where you put different grits of paper on a piece of glass and use a honing guide to run your chisel over the paper. I think it might work for long chisels, but I use palm chisels and unless I'm doing something wrong, they don't fit into the honing guide. It says, too, your chisel must extend 25-30 mm from the guide for different degree angles. My chisels don't extend from the honing guide that far. I'm I doing something wrong? Will those honing guides just not work on palm chisels? I'd appreciate any help and advice. Thanks in advance, Joy |
