Smile Help Carving a tudor rose

I was trying to machine carve a tudor rose ~ 3"(5 petal) with a duplicator. I can get a reasonable resembelance, but not the crispness I want. I tried with a point cutter and that takes a long time and still doesn't give me the result. Will some of you guhrus lead me through the hand carving process with the modeling. I hate to buy a bent back gouge unless I know I can be successful, but I do have several gouges and don't mind buying a N0#1 as it can be used a lot of places. Oh and ouch, the wood is white oak. Thks,pw
