Default Heirloom Alphabet Blocks

I have a new grandaughter who was born last weekend in Colorado and I would like to carve a set of these blocks. Figured if I started now I might get them done by the time she is big enough to play with them. Anyone know of a source for buying any of the durable woods that is recommended in the article. It was in issue #33 holiday 2005. Her name is Hannah Elizabeth and is only hours old in this picture. Only weighed 4' 3 oz, she was a month early.

Oh you lucky grampa, just like the first time you ever fell in love aint it. What a valentine you folks got.

About the wood I think box-wood would be most durable ( dont know about toxins ) Good Idea that.

Congratulations Don! What a great idea, the blocks will be. Then it will be a rocking horse, then a hobby horse, then a doll house, then........!!! Enjoy every minute with them Don, they are the best times you can invest.

Congratulations Grandpa!

She's a beautiful little girl!

As for the durable woods--specifically, the article mentions mahogany, cherry, walnut, poplar, or soft maple--for any of them, you could try:

Sharon L.Young
Groff & Groff Lumber, Inc.

I ordered poplar a few months back, and I was satisfied. I believe that's where Goody AKA Decoycarver gets the paulownia for his Santas.

Don,
I would also recommend Soft Maple; you should know that the term "soft" is relative.

That is one good looking baby, must take after Grandma's side of the family.

Yeh, she "takes after" gramma's side now, she will "take off after" grampa when she is old enough to pick up a stick ha haWinkHammer
