Default Have you seen this guy before?

Found this hunter somewhere. Really liked the work on the face. Can't make out the signature on the bottom. Anyone seen it before?

K Karver .. I believe I have a answer for you .. I dont know what year it was carved .. but Iam almost sure that is the work of the great swedish carving family .. The Gunnarsson's ...

The father Sven Gunnarssons was a wonderful flat plane carver from 1909-1985 and then his son Urban took over carving very similar to him ..

This very well known figure carver was well known for his wonderful carvings of important political figures such a Churchhill , FDR, and others ..

His carvings were sold worldwide and ended up in some very prominent and famous political figures homes ..

If you really want to know more about it .. look up one of Harley Refsal's carving books and his named is mentioned as one of the best flat plane carvers that existed ..

Every once in awhile .. one of his pieces show up on e bay and is sold as a estate piece ..

he was definately one of the best flat plane carvers that ever lived and if you visit Little shavers woodcarvers supply website .. you will see one of his Hobo pieces in the the history of caricature carving ..

You can also contact Harley Refsal and see what he says about it ..

Karver .. below is two of Gunnarssons best pieces of political figures ..

FDR and Eisenhower ..

I hope I helped you in some way ..

Gene

Thanks Gene,

I posted these pictures because of the clean lines in the carving. I really like the face. Your pieces look good too.

John
