Gene, I was able to see and count all five fingers on each hand. But you never saw his feet or toes......Neat. Thanks for the link.

So much for fancy smancy holding devices and gouges eh? Crude, dangerous but effective way of carving.

The "meat axe" he was carving with was very interesting - obviously razor-sharp, but the saw he used at the end was even more impressive - that thing cut fast!

I'd lose a limb if I tried to carve with that hand axe of his! Too many razor edges going too many different directions!

Japanese saws are very aggressive yet leave a nice cut face. I have a saw similar to the one he was using with rip teeth on one side and crosscut teeth on the other. That sucker cuts FAST!
