Default Where have all the regulars gone

Hi Gang,
I was just sitting here reading the forum and realized that there are quite a few of the guys and girls that used to be on here all the time that are absent these days present company included. For me it has been a busy winter I take care of my grandchildren just about every day. With mothers and fathers both working and shift work it seems that every night there is one of them sleeping and grandpa's house and that means getting them off to school, making lunches, getting them after school, helping the with homework, hockey practices and games, etc, etc. It seems a lot of grandparents these days are raising their grandchildren, mind you I am not complaining in a few years they will be gone out in the world and I wont see them very much. I have noticed that Goody, Ashby, Teri Embrey, Coffeeman, Don by the Lake, just to name a few that seem not to be around as much as they used to be and some not around at all.
As for me well although it is still really cold I can at least see my wood pile and fully intend to get back into the carving when this really cold weather goes away. Last night I sat down and thought I would carve out a santa that I designed. I think it was probably the third or fouth cut I sliced my finger to the bone with a knife just sharpened for me by Rick. No I wasent wearing a glove and no I didnt go to the hospital it usually takes about five hours in the emergency before they stitch you up. Took three bandaids before it stopped bleeding and even then I still was getting blood on the carving so I guit. Today I tried chainsaw carving a bear but also had to quit because it started bleeding through the bandaids again. Not complaining but the next time I think I will wear a glove. The old addage once bitten twice shy has taken effect. Never sliced myself that bad before maybe I am getting old and careless. Have a few things new I want to try so I will keep you posted just wanted to let you know I am still around. I read the message board every day but I am more of a lurker these days than a contributor.
Colin

Well, Colin, I'm still around.....maybe all my chatter has driven some of the regulars off. Hope not, though. One thing I have noticed from monitoring several message boards. After a while it seems like folks tend to drift off, perhaps checking back in only every so often. Not sure exactly what this is about, other than maybe we tend to get familiar with each other and the chance of profitable discussion dims. Just a thought.

Hi ya Colin, good to see you posting! I was thinking that very thing last night! Must be the winter, a cabin fever sort of thing, but I read a lot more than I write lately. Perhaps that is the way with the others too.

Good to know you're still alive and well, and cutting yourself! Just try and stay away from dragons this spring, my friend!!! LOL

Well, it's starting to get like spring around here and I am going through spring fever after being cooped up all winter. I am working on a cowboy that is about completed, but at 2 hour stretches it'll take a while. I may not be considered a regular but I haven't been posting much lately.

Colin, I remember you getting bit by a Lancelot tool.... Be easy on yourself! The rest of us are still here, just busy like you. I'm developing a 340 vine vineyard right now. Come see me in Tennessee and I'll share a bunch of blackberry wine with you! NEXT WINTER I'm doing nothing but carve!

Colin, I'm so sorry to hear you cut yourself.....you really should have gone to the hospital, sounds like you needed stitches!! Bet you're being told that at home too, aren't you?!!

I know what you mean about the postings. I'm very guilty of that and it does bother me, not being able to write as much as I used to. Family takes time away and like you, I'm not complaining, the Grandchildren do grow up too quickly!

I'm devoting more and more of my time to carving also, it's gone almost full time now and treating it as a full time job has changed how much time I have for other things.

Another thing is the just the sheer size of this message board now. I must admit, I have finally resigned myself to just going into a couple sections most of the time. I just don't have time to check them all, I hate that I can't but it's just that simple, I don't have the time and I can't do it. It still bothers me though!!

But if you thought I wasn't going to take the time for the lecture though, you're very much mistaken!! Shame on you, shame, shame, shame.......you know better.....WEAR YOUR GLOVE!! Deborah

This may not apply to any of the people you mentioned, but do you think some old schoolers just get bored of reading the same questions from all the newbies? Do we wear them out?

Let me just say upfront, we need and appreciate the old schoolers!!

I'll admit that I haven't been as active...Just got so many irons in the fire lately that I check in, make sure nothing is on fire, and off to other things...

I try to keep up on the discussions, but...both this board and the SSW&C board is growing so fast that the time I schedule to spend on the message board is spent doing administrative tasks and dealing with problems.

That, and I can't devote as much time to the boards as I used to...with the ancillary books...which are really cool, but I'm putting time in on them too...

LOL...I guess that's what you get when you have a job you love!!!

Jillsy is probably right, the 'old schoolers' get tired of answering repetitive questions from amateurs like me. I'm not a good carver, never will be but enjoy the time that I devote to it each week. Can't list all the good folks that have helped me on this message board. Thanks everyone.

I know Colin knows where I have been we try and talk each week or so. I have been busy with my volunteer work and learning how do cabinets without sight. We haven't started any yet just designing them. I have also been working on my Mill carving. I also managed to insulate the rest of my garage and put OSB plywood on the walls by myself. That took along time, about three times longer than usual. I also joined a health club and have been working out every day plus walking three to four miles. The walking is more for Lou than me. Ash and I talk every so often but haven't for a week or so he keeps pretty busy. As far as posting I haven't said allot because most of the time the post are about a carving I can't see but I do try and listen to all the post several times a day. So yep I'm still here can't run me off that easy! Sounds like everyone is doing lots of carving and some very interesting ones.
Ron
