Default Has your hand ever gone numb from carving?

Mine has.

Today I finally got some time to get down to the garage and work on a few projects. I was making good progress, but after about an hour and a half my right hand was a little tingly. I took a 10 minute break and cleaned up a little then started back. About twenty minutes later I was at a good stopping point and decided to call it a day. It still felt about the same but has actually become more numb after stopping. Now just about my entire right hand except for my ring finger and pinky finger is entirely numb. Anyone else ever experience anything like this?

Ah, thanks for the link! I didn't see your thread or I would have just posted in there. Hopefully this won't last long. I need to get back to the workbench and get those ornaments done for the swap!

Mine did several months ago, but I have a couple damaged back discs (car accident). If I lean over to much in a chair to wood carve I sometimes lock up my back causing the numbness in my hand and or arm. I do goto a chiropractor and it helps immensely! Also if your on any kind of pain killer mediation that can also cause numbness in the hand! If you are taking pain meds read the side effects. Hope this helps

Both hands will go total numb if I am holding anything the size of a steering wheel...., it started with a few fingers about seven years ago..., I can not get one answer from all the specialist I go to. they all disagree with each other as to what is causing it? Watch out for those chiropactors..... a friend talked me into going to one, this guy did not take x rays or the works, did some major damage.

thanks for the advice and the email - my chiropractor took lots of xrays to determine the extent of damage. Hope you find someone that can give you some answers.

The hands don't go numb when I carve, but the mind does.

My little bride says I am numb from the shoulders up.

Not make light of a serious problem here. I was wondering if the wrist band/guard helps!
