I have seen some petroglyphs (stone carvings) from northwest indian tribes. I'd like to do a relief or flat piece in basswood using one of the stone paints from Krylon for the rock and carve the drawings into it. Has anyone done this? Harris |

I have not yet carved any petroglyphs or pictographs....but I intend to. I have given it some thought and the main problem I see is that most of these figures are fairly primitive and to carve them correctly is to risk making them look like inept carving. I think the thing to do is to concentrate on carving the rock to make it realistic. I am not familiar with the Krylon rock paints. How do they work?

I haven't carved any petroglyphs but I have seen them in New Mexico. They are awesome and if your could combine them with a carving, that would be neat. Let's see, I can see a Kachina with a rock in the habitat with petroglyphs on the rock. When we walked the area that abounded with the timeless signs, it was amazing where you'd find the next sylbol--sometimes on small rocks and other times on BIG wall-sized rocks. Neat idea. Let us know how it turns out for you. Donna T

The faux stone paint is made by Krylon and some other manufacturers. You'll find them on google. There are different colors available. Harris |
