Default Has anyone carved petroglyphs

I have seen some petroglyphs (stone carvings) from northwest indian tribes. I'd like to do a relief or flat piece in basswood using one of the stone paints from Krylon for the rock and carve the drawings into it. Has anyone done this?

I have not yet carved any petroglyphs or pictographs....but I intend to. I have given it some thought and the main problem I see is that most of these figures are fairly primitive and to carve them correctly is to risk making them look like inept carving. I think the thing to do is to concentrate on carving the rock to make it realistic. I am not familiar with the Krylon rock paints. How do they work?

I haven't carved any petroglyphs but I have seen them in New Mexico. They are awesome and if your could combine them with a carving, that would be neat.

Let's see, I can see a Kachina with a rock in the habitat with petroglyphs on the rock. When we walked the area that abounded with the timeless signs, it was amazing where you'd find the next sylbol--sometimes on small rocks and other times on BIG wall-sized rocks.

Neat idea. Let us know how it turns out for you.

The faux stone paint is made by Krylon and some other manufacturers. You'll find them on google. There are different colors available.
