| | Happy Large Woodspirit In an earlier posting I said I wanted to carve a large happy (toothy) woodspirit...well here he is. Just to give you a perspective of how big he is I've included the 14 inch Mountain Man I posted here earlier. The woodspirit is carved in poplar and has a couple of coats of linseed oil. I burned in the eyes. He's between 5 and 6 feet tall and must be over 150 pounds in weight.

| | Re: Happy Large Woodspirit Patrick,
That is absolutly beautiful wow what a carving. I cant believe that you do all that with a hammer and chisel, I wouldnt think of tackling something that big anymore without a chain saw. That will make a great piece for someones rec room or inside the foyer of a house. Could you post a picture of the eyes you said you burned them in I would like to see how you did it. Again Patrick another masterpiece.

| | Re: Happy Large Woodspirit Thanks Colin and Corey - yes he is big.
Here is a close up for the eyes Colin. I hope it is clear. I needed to pick up another large gouge...not cheap, but very effective. It's the closest thing to a chainsaw. I'm afraid that I will have to get a larger mallet though.

| | Re: Happy Large Woodspirit Thanks Bob, Cliff and Merle - your feedback is appreciated. Bob, if someone else doesn't snap him up, I'll be putting him in the alcove of our front door...at least he's friendly looking eh.
Cliff, I don't watch much TV and there is little else to do between 8:00 pm and 11:00 pm at night...so I carve. I can usually get a good 10 hours in on the weekend. Once the warmer weather arrives, I'll be in my kayak so you'll be seeing fewer carvings posted between June and October.
