Default Happy Griz

I choose to post in general woodcarving because I use a chainsaw a grinder and many gouges to complete my carvings. Honestly at times I just don't want to hear the noise of power tools. I am donating this bear in hickory to a local Boy Scout club house. The bear is just under 6' tall and took me around 15 hours to complete. The bear is based on a grizzly I just softened the features burned it with a torch and shot some flat black spray paint on it.

Great looking Bear, love the expression. I totally hear what you say about power tools Don. If my aching bones didn't feel the strain so much at my age, I would use only hand tools sometimes. Ye gads, what am I saying!!!!!

You are always generous through your donations to causes. I hope the bear brings lots of funds for the Boy Scouts.
The fur looks very well done and the size alone should impress. 15 hours doesn't seem like very long for such a large project. Can we see another picture of the entire carving? Excellent expression as well.

I will take a few more Christina, I think the key to a good bear is the head and the texture. I don"t count the time I spend smoking a hand rolled cigars and drinking cold beer, if I did I would have 40 hours or more. I have another chairty carving that I want to do for a orphans home near Meridian MS. I want to do a traditrional carvi ng with mostly hand tools. I don't have a plan of what the carving should be yet. This place is a school as well I am open to suggestions from my fellow carvers. Do you think I should make a post asking for suggestions?

Sure, go ahead. You may get some original ideas of your own just seeing what comes to other folks' minds from the mention of a school. I will look forward to seeing how it goes.
