I learned a lot from Rick also. He was very good at what he did. I also recorded it and have both of his books.

JC,
Thanks for the update on your father. He is directly responsible for my interest in carving. Years ago (1993 to be exact) I was at my folks recovering from some major surgery and really couldnt do anything except lie in bed and watch tv. One Saturday morning, I tuned into his show on PBS and he was carving a bird. It really intrigued me...I thought I'd give it a try and havent stopped since. I still have that first carving, pitiful as it is but the interest he kindled has burned bright ever since.

Please pass my thanks and good wishes on to him. Hopefully someday, he might just drop in and say hello. It would be a pleasure to see him. Take care and also thank you for coming by, and for your service to our country .

Well, he's probably retired and living down in some warm area, teaching kids or golden agers the art of wood carving.

Thanks for the update. I am so glad you are all doing well.

I loved your Dad's carving series. In fact, a few months back I came upon them on some VHS tapes I found in a box and have truly enjoyed them all over again. There was such a peacefulness about that show. I believe it was his passion for wood carving that I was attracted to. After watching them, I finally had the courage to tackle his Airondack Santa and bear which I thought was much to advanced for me back when I was a beginner carver. I really like the way it came out.

So here's a photo of it which I hope he sees someday. Pass on my heartful thanks to him.

Ps. Please ask Mr. Butz to sign in some day - I am sure there are a "lot" of members who would love to say "Hey" and "thanks".
Ken, would you consider having those transferred to DVD? I would help cover the cost of doing it - I am not talking about copyright infringement or selling them on a large scale, but if you could "share" with your friends...

Damn fine show in its day. I watched it religiously every week when I could.
Kind of like Roy's show also, wish they could disc them, especially the first 30 yrs. (pun)

I have 3 books of your fathers and I taped all of his shows on VHS tapes.
A project is to transfer to DVD before tape deteriorates.
He was a big influence for me to carve,
Doug
