Default Handed hook knife

I had been looking for a carving tool that could cut like a potato peeler and ran across this at woodcraft. I like the way It cuts and draws out the wood in a nice arc. I was wondering how popular this knife was, it seems no one at the store I ran into has ever used it...

My wife bought one of those hook knives when she first started carving. She found it was good for hollowing out the bowls of spoons and other concave areas. Other knives can be used for a "paring" or "pull-type" cuts, but the hook knife works best on concave surfaces. I like to work with gouges and sometimes used them in a "pulling" direction.

I have Denny's version of this knife, I use it for spoons. It works great!

I have one from Pinewood Forge that I use primarily for spoons. Really great for concave surfaces...never tried it for anything but spoons.
