Default hair fork

This is a hair fork I carved out of applewood. It was supposed to be a spoon, but the bowl had alot of checking in it. I did this with no power.I sawed the piece of truck with a pruning saw, split it with the maul, shaved the bark off with my draw knife, roughed most of it out with a coping saw and curved blade exacto knife, and used my dockard micro tools for detailing.I hand sanded it with various grits of sand paper. for the finish I had a jar of natural color minwax products and mineral spirits left over from some wood spirits I did.To that I added some vegetable oil(olive, canola and safflower) that I saved from french frying yukon gold potatos(yummie!), waste not want not! And also added a little walnut oil.I put 3 or so coats of my secret formula on it! It's 7 inches long and seems to hold my unruly hair pretty good.Comments, critiques and suggestions are welcome. Thanks for looking!

That's really neat looking! You are very resourceful with the finish forumula. I'm thinking it might be good to chew on too, with that hint of Yukon Gold taters. ;-).
Seriously...it's a very cool carved piece.

What a beautiful hair fork. Makes me want french fries though! You and Keoma really got these hair ornaments down. It isn't a mistake if you can make something out of an oooooopss. Thanks for showing us.

Hi Sharon, your 'hair fork' is just lovely and you did it the traditional way. I love the color you came up with and the carving is just wonderful. Is your hair long enough to wear this lovely piece? I have short hair so I can't wear this type of hair jewelry, wish I did. Super work Sharon!

Sharon,Such a unique hair folk and you did a excellent job carving it by hand saving the old wood turning it into a beautifull work of art. I love the flower you carved plus your finish really ties it all together just right!!

Thanks for sharing your work with us,for I really appreicate carvings and art work creating something from nothing!

Thanks,Kris Wanda, Kenny,Kathy and Forrest for all the nice feedback on my hair fork. If it didn't have the minwax in the finish I could probably use it to grab some fries or chew on it! My hair is long enough to use it, even though I had my husband trim about 3 to 4 inches off over the weekend. Thanks again for all the nice encouragement and comments!
