This is not one for the purests. Excluding these there's stil a lot of knowhow on this forum I've had the benefit of in the help in the past. For reasons I will n't go in to . I want to try a caricature of a black smith. The problem is his mass of hair. Any suggestions of an alternative material for this?Frayed rope comes to my mind. |

I used to make alot of dolls out of polymer clay(fimo, etc.) I would buy "hair" at craft stores.Sometimes I would use wool and sometimes synthetic. the wool you can dye if it's not the right color. I have even used wool yarn.If you need curly hair you can wrap it around a chop stick, toothpick or something and just quickly dip it into boiling water then take out and let it dry before removing it from the stick. Wool will shrink though. You might have to secure the ends of wool on the stick so it won't come off in the water with thread or string.

Naw Lynn for once your suggestion is no good. The caricature is based on the Nibelungs, and they do n't ever ever where hats. Thanks for your suggestions Sharon I've copied them . |

| Hello aulddiy, A couple Ideas, first would be woodburning it. Desiree Hajny has several books on carving wildlife, the fur texture maybe a help. A very random pattern starting at the bottom and work to the top. This gives a nice overlap effect. The other idea is copper wire. Get the small stranded stuff and drill and selective placement. Would take a while. Please post a pic of your work. I would really love to see it. Hope I was a help, Doug
