Default Great Carving Bench

Since I am short on time now days I had to buy a bench to place in the new studio vs building my own. I ended up with this cast iron leg bench from Lee Valley

http://www.leevalley.com/wood/page.a...mp;ccurrency=2

So far I am more than pleased. The bench is very heavy and stable. The Maple top is 2 1/8' thick and very nice in apearance. The twin screw vice is very smooth in operation and locks securely. Packing of the bench was also top notch, there was no shipping damage. Overall fit and finish of the bench is flawless.

So if any one is looking for a great bench and don't have the time or tools to build your own I highly recomend the Lee Valley. I am now also interested in there carvers bench.

I just needed to have something larger at this time.

Dale,

I'm not surprised that you happy with your bench from Lee Valley. I've been to their store and seen that one on display. It is very nice, but so is everything at Lee Valley. I am always confident buying from them, knowing that they only sell top quality stuff.

By the way, how's the new store?

Nice workbench. Kinda pricey but I know, you get what you pay for. One of the women in my carving club has the carvers bench and she thinks it is the greatest thing ever made so when you get that one, I'm sure you will be happy with it. Congrats and happy carving!!!!!! Pam

Nice benches Dale...I can't believe the cast iron is cheaper than the wood base......that table will be passed on for generations!

The store is coming along great now. It did take a long time to get it painted. This week I will start bringing in carvings, tools, furniture etc. The comercial will be shot on the third of September. I will start taking pictures later this week and post them on the board when they are developed. While painting I had alot of people peek in for a look, they seemed to be interested in stoping back. Now I am looking forward to getting back to some carving.

I've been lusting over that carver's bench for a couple of years, but don't know where to put it. It's so nice looking, I'm starting to think it would fit in well in the living room. I may bring that up in a casual conversation with my wife before I buy it, though. You never know; she may not see it my way!

The bench would make a great place to serve Thankgiving dinner. Place the turkey in the vice and carve away

MDASr, go ahead and go for that bench indoors!!! My wife always 'negotiates' with me and wins and I'm sure yours does, too. Maybe you can win one negitiation.

HINT: You might try asking for some room other than the living room. My wife got tired of me getting eaten up by mosquitos in the summer and freezing to death in the winter. I now have my own room indoors and I will not give it up!!!! :-X
