Default Grape Leaves Finished

A couple photos of the finished Grape carvings....(got them listed under additional options, not showing yet....maybe they will when I hit submit thread)

This picture was taken after the grapeleaf trim was up, before I put the rest of the tin on the shed. It looks better now with the tin on, and the next pics show the carving. This is our Garden shed, 24x24 with 3' overhangs.

Here's a close up of the side.......it's all similar to this but you can't really see it on the first photo. I thought this was cypress but realize since it was a piece of cherry...just thought my tools were getting dull! The front piece is cypress. This piece (side) was nearly all hand carved, gouges.

Here's another....this is the front, cypress, all power carved...I got in a hurry as I had to put this on before the tin. I like the hand carved one best, the first one I carved, but the second one took very little time! Mostly done with King Arthur Tools Lancelot etc., real wood eaters! Hopefully over the Summer I'll add grape leaves to the window trim...this shed is right above our 325 vine vineyard.

p.s. My wonderful Wife, Paula, posted the pictures for me!

That's really cool. I have a 40' run of arches and then two 5 foot arches on the sides of the porch on my barn. You need some directions? If you feel extra ambitious, you can do the posts too.

Looking good Wade. The design is terrific for your new ventures. I hope your grape vines didn't get too zapped by the icy temperatures a couple of weeks ago.
I would like to see more pictures of the progress on your place as well when you get a chance.

Thor, Thanks! "Grape Leaves Finished" would have been a good caption for my vineyard after that frost, too! I think the vines will all survive, but they were all greened out nicely one day and black the next. It's still tough to look at them, but there's signs of growth all over the place, so they'll be fine!
I'll post some more current pictures of the place one of these days. Right now we're getting our garden on its' feet. Monday the Amish Produce Auction starts, so I'll be busy as their Auctioneer. It's Monday, Wednesday and Friday from the end of April til the end of October. Looking forward to it!

Hi Wade,

I am about to start carving door portals for my new house (so far we have the footers poured). I found this thread to see what your outdoor trim was carved in and what finish you used on it.

I won't use cherry, and don't know if I can get cypress (how's that to carve for details) and would still like to know what finish you used and how it's holding up?

thanks,
Thor
