Default got me thinking

Several posts have asked,,what should we carve now. After seeing Meipo's spoon rest I had a couple of ideas incorporating different ideas food related. The possibilities are endless, but they might be fun to give to your favorite chef. How about doing some of these as trivets?,,or do one or two in a Celtic Knot design??

I don't know Hi Ho,,,I got the sketches to scan O.K. but couldn't get them to upload properly,or save them in different formats, tried cutting them apart as if they were the size of a photo,,since I have no problem with them.Does the fact they are just black and white line drawings make a difference? as opposed to a photo..These are no big deal,,,just fun ideas, thought I would just send them along and see if Bob couldn't help..Hey,, I'm a carver,, not a computer guy, but I would like to figure this out.

If you like I'll redo them in felt pen or ink so they read better....and download the software Bob recommended .Here,, the sketches look a little funny,,in pencil they look fine,,O.K. Mark,,,,make a mental note,,

Gimp is great for opening photos...it's free...just google it

For vector art, which is the best for 2-d art (relief carvings, etc.) check out Inkscape. THere is a bit of a learning curve, but with practice, you can do some amazing things!

What a great design my wife teaches cooking in high school. How do you scoop out the place for the spoon and how deep?

it will depend on how thick the wood is that you start with. The actual depth doesn't have to be that much, and a gouge will do the work, or if you want it deeper you could do the roughout with a router and finish it up by hand .It all depends on what you want it to look like
