Default Good knife, cheap

Get a Murphy blade and mount it in a handle of your choice/design. They come in two lengths, 1 1/2 and 1 7/8 inch. Have a bunch of carving knives, but keep coming back to those. Only place I know that stocks just the blades is 'Little Shavers.' They go for $5.49 each. Of course if you like the Murphy handle, you could buy them alread made up and save yourself some work.

P.S. You will need to (gasp) sharpen them.

One of the best knives I have owned is one I got from Little Shavers (I believe). It has 'Bud Murray' lightly burned into the handle. I believe Rick told me it was made from old planer blades. It's very thin (top to bottom) and turns easily in the wood. Very strong with little give in it. I don't think it was expensive.
