You beat me to it Mike. I was gonna post a similar query. Well I hope we'll see some folks from the board there. Come on gang - pipe up!!! Looks like this year it'll just be myself and my daughter Celine coming. My wife feels like there's too many things she needs to focus on and get done at home. Staying in a room in the Lodge this year since I don't feel like having a repeat experience of last years tent flood. :-) Can't wait! See you there - and ready to learn all I can to complete the NA Flute blanks. Yaaaahhhhooooo! ChuckT |

Wow Mike - looks like it's just you & me? I find it hard to believe that there is NOBODY else on this board going to the BEST carving event in the East. Or that there is nobody else from the 250 - 300 that attend NEWR who visit this forum!! What's up with that??? Hey Mike - looks like we'll have to do some WCI forum promotion while at NEWR this year. Hey BobD - you out there? Why doesn't WCI have a presence at NEWR each year? I mean - the event IS practically in your back yard? Just curious. ChuckT ChuckT |

Chuck, Hmmm, might need to work it both ways. Maybe we need to drop some "big names" like... Hey! Pete LeClair, Floyd Rhadigan, and Dennis Thorton are all gonna be there Wink . If you can't get accomodation at Cherry Ridge Campgrounds or just want to "come and have a look around", the NEWR welcomes "walk ins" so come on over anyway. In general, there are no class fees because the instructors volunteer. We do sell materials for our classes though, so there is a cost there. The event registration is Sunday and a meet the instructors session after that. My buddy Harold will be teaching gnome-homes from cottonwood bark this year. I'll be teaching woodspirits Mon and Tuesday (2 seperate classes) and easy Santas Wed. Pete, Dennis and Floyd will be teaching caricatures. Floyd lets you pick anything from his managery to carve, and if there's nothing there you like you're in the wrong branch of the hobby. I'm not sure what Dennis finally decided on, but he was considering a caricature chicken hawk, and Pete usually does facial features. Jim O'Dea has execellent beginners' stuff, and there is a Sharpening 101 taught by Bob Muller every morning ( mandatory for the beginners ). We also have chip carving, tramp art, scrimshaw, cane carving and pyrography. There's just a great variety of stuff there, so don't just go by my poor description. In fact... check outHope to see ya there. Last edited by Mike_B-NY; 07-15-2008 at 01:11 PM. |

Would love to head up there after reading that, but did not realize its a three day thing. I have to do one of those eventually. Sounds like I could learn so much there especially the sharpening classes. |

You can always pop up for one day. Not necessary to stay for all three. Most of the workshops are 1 day classes, with only a couple spanning more than 1 day. So don't hold back. Come on up!! ChuckT |

Yeah, what he said. There are several folks in the same situation and they just do one or two days... but that's usually the last time .

Thats just it, you go thinking one day and there is no way I would leave there after only one day. Then it starts on a Sunday. Maybe if it started on a Friday then I had the whole weekend. I would of taken the two days off at work but to short of a notice. You guys make sure you take lots and lots of pics and enjoy. |

Actually - Sunday is really just check in, workshop sign ups, and maybe an evening quickie workshop. It really runs Mon - Wed. But heck - depending on how far away you are a one day trip is better than nothing isn't it? I hear you though regarding needing to use vacation time. Luckily I am pretty blessed in that department, but if you've only got a couple weeks it can be tough to apportion it out. Cheers ChuckT |
