Default This was going in the garbage

Hi again gang isnt it funny how one mans junk is another man's treasure. I was sorting out my wood pile and cleaning it up as I have promised the good lady I would for the past year. She came down to visit me while I was doing this. I was making a pile of logs that I was going to burn, when she spotted this carving that I had practiced on last year. The carving was of a women I find them very hard to do and didnt like my efforts on this one at all. It was carved out of sugar maple and stands about two feet hight and 18 inches wide. She said she just loved it and it was exactly what she was looking for to put her vine basket of flowers on outside the front door. I insisted I would carve her something better but you know women when they get something in their minds there is no changing it. So a brought the carving up and stained it and it now sits outside our front door. Go figure it had been me it would have been ashes by now.

Or perhaps, "One man's trash is another woman's treasure." LOL

Knowing women, (which isn't saying much in my case) I'd have to say that she first needed the perfect place for that eagle's nest flower basket and your practice log just completed that vision for her.

I too would like to learn more about carving the female face and figure, as I never have been completely satisfied with my attempts. Your's really does look quite acceptable and if SHE says so then that should be good enough! Way to go Colin.

Colin, Hey I like it too.....both the carving and your wifes great idea on how to put the piece to good work. Now to add to this, think about carving a seperate piece, just a wrist and openpalm hand and place a small flower pot on the palm?

Keep up the great work Coiln, your an inspiration to many of us...Coffeeman

Can't imagine why you would want to put a good carving in the trash, especially one with a person with there mouth closed. Its a good symbol to have on your door step. Being seen and not heard.
