Default Glazing Eyes

I want to put a glaze over the eye I just carved. Can't remember how it's done. Is it done with super glue or epoxy.

Hi Elmer

You can use Treasure Crystal Coat to put a gleam in your eyes. Callyne sent me instructions how to use it. Basically you brush it on and then take a toothpick and put a drop on the pupil. I have found that Goof Off works good for cleaning your brush after this. TreeLine has it, but its a small bottle, about 2 ounces. Hope this is what your looking for.

Hello Elmer, I have tried Super glue and also fingernail polish. Both work well but I like the fingernail polish better, I have more control over it using the little brush in the bottle. I just swipe it from my wife.

Elmer,
There's probably as many ways to glaze eyes as there is to sharpen tools. Epoxy dropped on the dried painted eyes works, but then so does dropping high gloss varnish or poly onto the eye a drop at a time and letting it dry, then adding another drop. Sometimes I do this 5-6 times--letting it dry between coats and oh yes, I just use a toothpick to dip in the varnish and drop it onto the eye. (Because it dries out so quickly, I usually just get the tiny can of Red Devil varnish at Wally World.)

I also like Crystal Cote because it holds its "mounded" shape better than the varnish. I apply it with a toothpick too, but this warning: just drop it onto the eye--don't wallow it around or you'll "lift" the paint right off the eye. Use with plenty of ventilation--it's potent.

I've not tried using the super glue on eyes. I have tried epoxy, but I hate to mix a dab of it when all I need is a drop.

Take a piece of scrapwood and carve a 1/2 dozen eyes on it--then paint them and try a different finsih on each one. Then you'll know without ruining a carving. And just think how much better you'll be at carving eyes when you're finished with all that practice.

. Is Crystal Cote the same a Crystal Glaze? We( the worse half and I) have several jars of Crystal Glaze and it looks to be tight for eyes. She uses it in her Craft work.

Before anyone gets offended by my little banter towards by little bride, we just celebrating 37 happy years together. Really is amazing I found such a lovely and beautiful person for sure.

How was that honey? Was it good enough to get me out of the dog house this time?
