| | Giant tree carving finished Hi Gang,
Sorry I havent been around much but summer is an awful busy time for me. Today is raining so I have time to catch up on the message board. I have just finished the large stump carving and thought you might like to see the finished carving. For those that are interested in stump carving I always seal the top of the carvings with Bondo (Automobile fiberglass) to stop the elements from penetrating the carving from the top.
I am quite pleased the way the carving turned out even though I had to change one carving from a women to a man.
Of course as always constructive criticism is always welcome.

| | Re: Giant tree carving finished Wonderful job Colin! I sure don't see how you could improve anything on those because they look great! Just curious, are you about 10 feet tall?
Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing!

| | Re: Giant tree carving finished Colin, what a great carving! And that "stump" seems to be staging a comeback, judging by all the sucker shoots sprouting from it. Gives the carving an added depth. That wouldn't have been a Box Elder, would it?

| | Re: Giant tree carving finished We Call it a Manitoba Maple it has leafs the same as a maple tree. Some people call them silver maple as well. Now having said all that when you mention boxwood elder, I seem to remember that some box wood elder I had at one time was bright red in the middle. This tree was crimson red in the heart wood absolutly beautiful wood. It was so red that when I first put my chainsaw int it I thought that I had hit an animal like a racoon it was that red. I just recieved a phone call someone wants two large spruce tree's done so I will be busy again next week.

| | Re: Giant tree carving finished I see your still at it Colin - wonderful large woodspirits. They must really stand out given the size. I see you've been ask to carve some in spruce. That must be soft/gummy wood to be using a chainsaw and carving tool in. It's good to be busy and I see that your flat out. I haven't been able to get to the message board myself these days but I'm going to try and get more regular.
