Thumbs up Re: Genes Tutorials

hi gene I wish you to know that I HADNT done any carving before,
until I watched some of your tutorials, I've found some scraps of wood and
gave it ago with pen knife,I don't think I did to bad doing a wood spirit.
I have to find out about what wood to use as we in england don't have trees
named cotton wood or bass wood which looks nice and easy to carve I think the
nearest we have got is lime,I shall have a go at that with proper carving knives

Kudos to Gene! I mentioned once to him in a comment on you tube, that carving is a spiritual form of art. Taking the knife, chisel, or gouge to the wood connects you directly to the work that you are doing. You in essence become the work, and the work when complete becomes an extention to those that admire, or will to become inspired by such works! My hat off to Gene, a real pioneer for what we do!

Gene, I will chime in here as well. I started with Shipley's Country Bear book but didn't really start until I watched your video on carving the bear. I bought tools, made a strop, got ready to get ready and finally started with the video. I think watching someone do it is what it takes to get started. Thanks so much for helping us beginners out. I enjoy your sense of humor as well. I have received much support on this whole forum. I read it almost daily but post very little. Thanks to everyone and especially Gene. ~Lance

I gotta chime in, too. The videos make the project look less intimidating with the simple, easy to follow instructions. Sometimes I find it difficult to read the article, look at the picture with the description and try to figure out what's going on. I guess I'm getting too old to study.LOL!
Thanks for the great videos, Gene!
