Default general carving

I started carving one year ago, and wondering where to show my wares and how to price them if I find an interested buyer

I would do an internet search for business that sell woodcarvings and compare my work with the stuff they have for sale and price it appropriately. Don't check out the prices overseas because the cost of labor is different and the quality varies widely.

Art shows, craft shows and carving shows are good outlets if you have the time to sit at them. At least you can carve while you are waiting for prospects to show up. Some carvers feel that their work is art and shouldn't be offered at craft fairs, but that depends on how hungry you are and what your feelings are about the subject. The internet is another medium to use for sales as well as art galleries.

Pricing is dependant on the locale where you are selling, the quality of the product you offer and what you fell you should get for the piece. These things are not all compatible and each person will have a different view on what a piece is worth. Don't underprice your work! You will be selling yourself short and doing a disservice to others who are trying to sell similar items.

Good Luck...

I have a great time doing craft shows. I always work on a piece during the show - it attracts attention. About half of my sales are 'off the shelf' and half are special orders taken at the show and done later then sent to the buyer. I don't make a ton of money, but I have a great time and over the course of the year I sell nearly everything I carve. I price my things to sell, not to make a killing.
